or he (the husband), in whose hands is the marriage tie, agrees to forego and give her full appointed Mahr. And to forego and give (her the full Mahr) is nearer to At-Taqwa (piety, right-eousness, etc.). And do not forget liberality between yourselves. Truly, Allh is All-Seer of what you do.

238. Guard strictly (five obligatory) AsSalawt (the prayers) especially the middle Salt (i.e. the best prayer 'Asr). And stand before Allh with obedience [and do not speak to others during the Salt (prayers)].

239. And if you fear (an enemy), perfrom Salt (pray) on foot or riding. And when you are in safety, offer the Salt (prayer) in the manner He has taught you, which you knew not (before).

240. And those of you who die and leave behind wives should bequeath for their wives a year's maintenance and residence without turning them out, but if they (wives) leave, there is no sin on you for that which they do of themselves, provided it is honourable (e.g. lawful marriage). And Allh is All-Mighty, All-Wise. [The order of this Verse has been cancelled (abrogated) by Verse 4:12].

241. And for divorced women, maintenance (should be provided) on reasonable (scale). This is a duty on Al-Muttaqn (the pious - see V.2:2).

242. Thus Allh makes clear His Ayt (Laws) to you, in order that you may understand.

243. Did you (O Muhammad ) not think of those who went forth from their homes in thousands, fearing death? Allh said to them, "Die". And then He restored them to life. Truly, Allh is full of Bounty to mankind, but most men thank not.

244. And fight in the Way of Allh and know that Allh is All-Hearer, All-Knower.

245. Who is he that will lend to Allh a goodly loan so that He may multiply it to him many times? And it is Allh that decreases or increases (your provisions), and unto Him you shall return.

246. Have you not thought about the group of the Children of Israel after (the time of) Mus (Moses)? When they said to a Prophet of theirs, "Appoint for us a king and we will fight in Allh's Way." He said, "Would you then refrain from fighting, if fighting was prescribed for you?" They said, "Why should we not fight in Allh's Way while we have been driven out of our homes and our children (families have been taken as captives)?" But when fighting was ordered for them, they turned away, all except a few of them. And Allh is All-Aware of the Zlimn (polytheists and wrong-doers).

247. And their Prophet (Samuel) said to them, "Indeed Allh has appointed Talt (Saul) as a king over you." They said, "How can he be a king over us when we are better fitted than him for the kingdom, and he has not been given enough wealth." He said: "Verily, Allh has chosen him above you and has increased him abundantly in knowledge and stature. And Allh grants His Kingdom to whom He wills. And Allh is All-Sufficient for His creatures' needs, All-Knower."

248. And their Prophet (Samuel) said to them: Verily! The sign of His Kingdom is that there shall come to you At-Tbt (a wooden box), wherein is Sakinah (peace and reassurance) from your Lord and a remnant of that which Mus (Moses) and Hrn (Aaron) left behind, carried by the angels. Verily, in this is a sign for you if you are indeed believers.

249. Then when Talt (Saul) set out with the army, he said: "Verily! Allh will try you by a river. So whoever drinks thereof, he is not of me, and whoever tastes it not, he is of me, except him who takes (thereof) in the hollow of his hand." Yet, they drank thereof, all, except a few of them. So when he had crossed it (the river), he and those who believed with him, they said: "We have no power this day against Jalt (Goliath) and his hosts." But those who knew with certainty that they were to meet their Lord, said: "How often a small group overcame a mighty host by Allh's Leave?" And Allh is with As-Sbirin (the patient ones, etc.).

250. And when they advanced to meet Jalt (Goliath) and his forces, they invoked: "Our Lord! Pour forth on us patience
